Sea Scouts

Sea Scouts (Ages 14-20)

Sea Scouts is Scouting America’s co-ed maritime program for youth ages 14–20 (or 13 and completed eighth grade), focused on adventure, leadership, and seamanship experiences on the water.

Youth participate in a Sea Scout ship (unit), where elected youth leaders plan activities, lead meetings, and guide the program with support from trained adult advisors.

For more than 100 years, Sea Scouting has built character and citizenship through boating skills, water safety, outdoor adventure, service, and maritime heritage.

What Sea Scouts Do

Sea Scouts take part in hands-on nautical and leadership experiences, including:

  • Sailing, paddling, and boating skills
  • Navigation and water safety training
  • Cruises, regattas, and on-water adventures
  • SCUBA, lifesaving, and marine certifications
  • Leadership and teamwork development

Ships may use vessels ranging from paddlecraft to sailing yachts and powerboats, giving youth real-world maritime experience.
