Distinguished Citizen Award Events
The East Carolina Council’s Distinguished Citizen Award events recognize outstanding community leaders whose integrity, service, and leadership reflect the values of Scouting. These celebrations are held across the council to honor individuals who make a lasting impact in their communities while supporting local Scouting programs.
Each district hosts its own Distinguished Citizen Award event during the year. Event details, honoree announcements, and sponsorship opportunities are shared as they become available.
Endowment Giving
Endowment gifts to the East Carolina Council provide lasting support for Scouting by creating a permanent source of funding that benefits future generations of youth. Contributions to the endowment are invested, and only the earnings are used—allowing your gift to strengthen Scouting in eastern North Carolina for years to come.
Ways to Give
Memorial or Honorary Gifts
Honor or remember a special individual with a lasting gift to Scouting. These contributions become part of the council’s endowment and continue supporting youth programs indefinitely.
James E. West Fellowship
A contribution of $1,000 or more (cash or securities) recognizes an individual with a framed certificate, lapel pin, and square-knot insignia. These gifts are often made to celebrate achievements such as Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver, retirement, or significant milestones, and are intended to complement annual Friends of Scouting support.
Planned Giving
Support Scouting through your estate by including the East Carolina Council in your will. Planned gifts help ensure long-term program stability and can continue your commitment to Scouting beyond your lifetime.

Hardee’s Scouting America Golf Classic
The Hardee’s Scouting America Golf Classic is a golf tournament that helps support local Scouting programs. Through this event, participants have the opportunity to enjoy a day on the course while helping provide resources that strengthen Scouting in our community.
Proceeds from the tournament support important aspects of the Scouting program, including outdoor adventures, leadership development, volunteer training, and financial assistance that helps make Scouting accessible to more youth.
This event highlights the continued partnership between community supporters and Scouting, helping ensure that young people have access to experiences that build character, leadership skills, and a commitment to service.

Popcorn Fundraiser
The Popcorn Fundraiser is one of the primary ways Scouts help fund their adventures throughout the year. By participating in the annual popcorn sale, Scouts learn valuable skills like goal setting, communication, and responsibility while helping support their own Scouting experience.
Proceeds from the sale help support both local Scouting programs and individual units. Funds raised can help cover expenses such as camping trips, summer camp, program supplies, uniforms, awards, and other activities that make Scouting possible.
Community members can support Scouts by purchasing popcorn or making a donation during the sale. Every purchase helps create opportunities for youth to grow through outdoor adventure, leadership development, and service to others.
